Post Video Conference
The post video conference will take place during the next
class. Some time must be allotted for students to
discuss the experience of the video conference itself.
Answer questions they might have regarding the Albright-Knox,
the technology, etc.
The purpose of the post video conference class is to reinforce
the original objectives of the lesson:
Objectives
-
analyze artwork for elements of political commentary.
-
dissect paintings for historical context
-
write a poem relating to a specific artwork
-
determine what key events were in the French Revolution
based on the images portrayed in the artwork
-
recognize the impact one artist can have on his time
period and artwork of today
Because students have had multiple opportunities to view
artwork through the lens of both an historical timeframe (the
French Revolution) and today, they are now ready to
independently analyze paintings they have not yet seen.
For this lesson, two more of David's paintings will be used.
This choice of paintings will serve the secondary purpose of
reinforcing the historical content.
Students will be presented with copies of the paintings
"Coronation of Napoleon" and "Portrait of Napoleon."
Each painting will be accompanied by a synopsis, giving
students information about the historical context and the
artist's point of view.
Independently, students will answer the following essay
question:
Based on your knowledge of the French Revolution and the
artists Jacques-Louis David, react to the following statement:
The two pieces of artwork presented are clear examples of 19th
century propaganda.
Your answer should include:
-
a
strong introduction with a thesis statement
-
evidence of knowledge of the
French Revolution
the artist Jacques-Louis David
-
connections of knowledge gained from the Albright-Knox video
conference
-
a
strong conclusion, reinforcing your answer
