Thanks,  Jackie”
Virginia Mee

Oh once there was a man so great

And Jackie was his name.

He dared to play against all odds.

That was his claim to fame.

The color of his skin was black,

But that did not stop him.

The day he stepped up to the plate

Most thought his chances slim.

He proved all those who’d doubted wrong;

He knew he had the right

To enter baseball with the rest

For that he’d surely fight.

He fought in his own quiet way

Until he was received

With love, respect, and eternal thanks

From those who then believed.

The game of baseball is today

A game that all may play.

To Jackie, men of every race

Give credit without delay.
