The Cincinnati Zoo &
Botanical Garden opened September 18, 1875. The exotic site
which is spread among seventy acres includes over seventeen major
outdoor exhibits and nine indoor exhibits.
Children
do not have to travel to the site to visit or experience the
extraordinary educational programs offered. As a result of
videoconferencing and an array of distance learning offerings,
classrooms across the nation have access to this wonderful adventure
and educational experience. All of the distance learning programs are designed to engage students in
active learning and complement classroom study with a variety of
biological and earth science topics.
Project
VIEW collaborated with teachers from Ballston Spa, NY
and the educators and staff at the Cincinnati Zoo to develop "Ecosystems," a videoconference
program targeting grades 3 – 5. The program includes lessons on the
ecosystem, biomes and study of the food web.
