Vanishing Wings --------------- It’s too late to save the Passenger Pigeon, Carolina Parakeet, Dodo, and numerous other extinct species. Unfortunately, there are still many other existing birds in peril that face a number of human-created problems. We’ve had to learn a hard lesson about extinction, but it is possible to save what we have left. The National Aviary is working to preserve such critically endangered species such as Bald Eagles, Red-Crowned Cranes, and Thick-billed Parrots. Learn about extinct and endangered species, the birds of the Species Survival Plan, what humans have done to impact rare birds, and what is being done to bring them back from the brink of extinction. |
