The Tennessee Aquarium, located in Chattanooga, Tennessee includes a 60 foot canyon, two living forests and more than 9,000 animals in natural habitats.
Distance Learning
The Tennessee Aquarium offers distance learning sessions that
feature animals! All distance learning sessions feature an Aquarium
educator interacting with your class and answering questions about
the topic. The animals are featured on camera and our programs cater
to specific grade levels. Educators give background information and
multimedia visuals for the animal and its species while encouraging
questions from students. You can also use the distance learning
sessions as a supplement to your lesson plan. We are willing to
discuss particular needs for your group.
Distance learning sessions are offered via H.320 standards and are conducted via a V-Tel Galaxy 755 and multi-point bridge. We have the ability to host eight remote sites at one time, but usually have only one or two.
Distance Learning Scheduling Form and Information
Sessions are available October through May. The following times are used for distance learning sessions: 9 a.m. EST, 1 p.m. EST and 3 p.m. EST. These times are set due to other responsibilities of the Education Department and their animals. If an alternate time would work better for you and your class, ask to see if it is available.
Sessions must be scheduled two weeks in advance. (The animals are those used in our outreach and in-house education programs and they have schedules too).
Cost
The cost of a Distance Learning Session is $50 for 40 minutes. A
test connection one hour prior to your session will take place to
ensure to proper connection, and to make sure we can see each other!

But I Want It! Grades 9-12 Have you ever wished for an exotic fur coat or a pair of alligator boots? What about a tortoise shell barrette or an ivory bracelet? Ever wanted an exotic cat or a rare reptile for a pet? All of these are animals or products made from animals that are becoming endangered due to illegal trade and capture. Through slides, video and actual confiscated items, students are introduced to the problems faced by "valuable" wildlife. |
