About the Provider
In 1900, George and Ann Perkins, heirs of the city’s founder, Simon Perkins, donated what is now Perkins Woods Park to the City of Akron. They stipulated that the 79 acres be used for “...the sole purpose of devoting the same to the uses of a public park, especially as a place for recreation for children.”
With this goal in mind, the Akron Museum of Natural History was incorporated in 1950, by Charles E. Slusser, Richard S. Barnhardt, Daniel E. Falkner, Myrtle Pfueger, and Fred O. Smoyer. The Museum operated as a non-profit organization and helped to stimulate interest in the conservation of natural resources and provided entertainment for the public in the Summit County area.

Connectivity
Participants must have access to a two-way audio-video teleconferencing system operating at 384K or faster. Sites connecting with the Akron Zoo for the first time, or sites that have not made a connection in over a year, need to complete a test call. Sites must also be able to connect with the State of Ohio network and are responsible for any charges they incur while making that connection.
At this time, there are no program fees for Ohio Public Schools or other schools that participate in the Ohio SchoolNet program. Schools that are not part of this program are charged a program fee of $75.00 for the 1st program and $50.00 each additional program, as well as any long distance or bridge fees incurred during a connection with the Zoo.
