Team Takes
Collaborating Classrooms to Next Level
Peter Rawitsch, an elementary teacher at
Glenmont Elementary School in the
Bethlehem Central School District has taken project VIEW
videoconference integration training & experience to the next level.
While VIEW training is designed to introduce teachers to
videoconferencing, help them connect with content providers &
develop curriculum & content, the long-term goal is for teachers
to be comfortable establishing connections & forming collaborations
while adapting and developing various curricula to individual
classroom needs. The ultimate result is a trained
teacher recognizing the value of a comprehensive
videoconference program, seeing an opportunity, realizing the
technological advantages & then taking the initiative to
develop, connect and implement a videoconference program based on
the training provided by project VIEW. Rawitsch & his
collaborating team have done just that.
Rawitsch along with Gina
Baldwin, Betsy Schrade and Ann Kohler all of Bethlehem Schools,
recently developed the program, The Life Size Star Spangled
Banner. The Patriotic program which has a strong
focus on Math, Science & Technology has been designed
to incorporate and utilize the vast
resources and experts of
COSI-Toledo. The team's finished
program will be included on COSI-Toledo's menu of available
videoconference programs.
ABOUT THE
PROGRAM
The
Life Size Star Spangled Banner program requires collaboration of
elementary & middle school students as well as COSI Toledo.
The students will use math to construct a life size replica of the
Star Spangled Banner. The project includes
lessons in proportions, videoconferencing with COSI Toledo as well as numerous
writing activities. The program, "Size Wize: A Lesson In
Proportions" based on the Life Size Star Spangled Banner
program, is currently being developed and will be available for
schools nationwide.
The
finished project will be posted on the
project VIEW Website.
