Day 1:

GoalThe students will better understand how art helps communicate a message.

 

1) Introduce Thomas Moran (1837-1926)

3)   Display Smelting Works at Denver

4)   Create a poetry journal and record observations

5)   Discuss how this painting relates to the problem of air pollution in our state (country)

 Day 2:                        

Goals: 

1)  The students will learn the connection between air pollution and exercise.

2)  The students will learn that people who already are especially vulnerable to air pollution are even more vulnerable when exercising or engaging in strenuous work.

Days 3 and 4:      

Goal:  The students will sketch/paint a poster to teach others the relationship between air pollution and exercising.

1)  In small groups, have the students brainstorm the message they want to illustrate in their sketch/painting (The students may want to do extra research).

     2)  Students share/discuss their final product
