Jasper Francis Cropsey                                                                 Student Activity
Cropsey was best known for his wonderful use of color. He was a member of the Hudson River School, and dazzled viewers with the autumn landscapes that he created with boldness and brilliance.

Following the Civil War, Cropsey became interested in watercolors, and founded the American Society of Painters in Water Colors in 1867. Two of his best known paintings are Autumn on the Hudson River, completed in 1860, and Dawn of Morning, Lake George (right), finished in 1868.
