Ancient Egypt - Mummies & Ancient Egypt
Grade  6 - 12

The sixth grade Social Studies curriculum includes a unit about Ancient Egypt & I would like to do more interdisciplinary work a that grade level.  The 6th graders have already studied this and I'd like to enhance what they've learned in that class as well as pull in what they've learned to enhance our art projects about Egyptian art.

Potential need to know:  I already received information from AIHA about their lesson & I will be working with the 6th grade Social Studies teacher to combine both resources.  There are four activities that come with the information that I will cover with the classes.  I also have a Scholastic Art featuring Egyptian Art that will be part of my art project.  There is a Website:  dia.org that I will have the students look at which includes art lessons.

Time Required:

Planning:  40 hours

Pre-Lessons and Activities: 20 Classes

Implementation:  1 Hour

Post Lessons and Activities:  6 Classes

Assessment:  3 Hours

Logistical Planning:
Strategies and methods -  Class will do a mock video conference in the classroom the day before and also visit the UHai Theater for those who may not have been there.  They will have a checklist and/or timeline to follow.

Instructional/Environmental Modifications:  I'll have pre-conference handouts for them and have them write questions on index cards with one empty index card for something that might happen during the conference.  There are no bilingual students at this time and I am checking IEP's to see what modifications need to be made for special needs students.  I will have them pull in writing from what they have done in Social Studies to help refresh them.  I will put posters up around the theater to help.

Technique and Observations:

We will complete an art project with subsequent group and self-critique work.  They will write about the conference for the district newsletter.

Tools:  I will have completed rubrics for grading and checklists to follow.
