Spider Marionette -
The differences between spiders & insects and more
Grade
s 1- 7
Can be modified to any of these grades

Students build a Spider Marionette while participating in learning activities about how spiders and insects differ, web vs. wandering spiders, and the lifecycle of a spider.  A great arts and science leson in one.

Purpose/Objective:
This video conference will be an enrichment activity for students who complete the arthropod unit.  The students will make anatomically correct spider marionettes.

This integration plan was used by a Grade 7 Science Teacher at Schalmont Middle School.

Pre Activities
Students discover their own spider, drawing and labeling body parts.

Students write a descriptive paragraph about their spider

Students present their discovery to the class

Students measure draglines of various spiders

Post Activities
Students learn about other culture through folktales involving spiders

Students will compare Anansi/Spider figures from different countries

Art

Logistical Planning
After completing the arthropod unit, students have the opportunity to study a specific type of arthropod in more detail - a spider.
