The Wonderful World of Bugs
Grade 6

The students are currently learning about ecosystems, biomes, life cycles, food webs, chains, and energy pyramids.  This activity would complement classroom study of producers, consumers, decomposers, and the roles that insects play in the ecological life cycle.


New York State Learning Standards
Standard 4
Students will understand and apply scientific concepts, principles and theories pertaining to the physical setting and living environment and recognize the historical development of ideas in science.

English Language Arts
Standard 1
Students will read, write, listen and speak for information and understanding.

Time Required:

Planning - Four Hours

Pre Lessons &  Activities - Four Hours

Implementation - Three Hours

Post Lesson & Activities - Six Hours

Assessment - Two Hours

Logistical Planning:

The students began a unit on ecosystems and biomes.  They will have completed an Internet research project on biomes.  This project includes locations of biomes, common plants and animals in the biomes and their adaptations, and how they are interrelated.

Practice video-conferencing etiquette by videotaping a mock video-conference.  Make sure equipment is working.

Prepare the classroom so that all children can interact and view the monitor.
