Purpose/Objective:  Students have read the book, An Island Like You.  They have written chapter summaries & critiques.  In groups, they have written questions that they would like to ask the author about the book and her life.

Students will need a synopsis of the author's life.  She was born in Puerto Rico & moved to Patterson, NJ as a child.  This book is based on her experiences between the two worlds.

Time Required:
Pre Lessons and Activities

Time:  one hour to read two short stories a week

One hour to write their summaries.

Implementation
One Hour

Post Lessons and Activities
Time:  45 minutes

Students who asked questions will conduct a group discussion and recap of the author's presentation.  Also, all students will write a one page paper on their favorite short story.

Logistical Planning:
We will do a run through practice session.  Students will ask their questions in the target language (Spanish).

Key Points to Remember:
3 Second Delay
Students will introduce themselves before asking their questions - - speak clearly, slowly and loud (No Gum).

Student writings and group discussions.
