World War I, the Age of Dictatorship & World War II
Grade 10

A program that would incorporate the MOMS teacher information center slide show "Art and War:  1914-1945", lesson plans on World War I, the Age of Totalitarian Dictatorships, and World War II and additional interaction with MOMA via videoconferencing.

Purpose/Objective
The students will be learning about World War I, the Age of Dictatorships and World War II.  The students will have looked at a number of instances throughout the year where art reflects society's values.  We will do activities with Picaso's work "Guernica" as a prime example.  The students will be viewing the works of art as documents which will be portraying history from a variety of perspectives.

Time Required:

Planning - 3-4 Hours of teacher prep time

Pre Lessons Activities - two full class periods

Implementation - two full class period to do video conferencing with MOMA

Post Lessons and Activities and Assessment - 1/2   of a class period

Logistical Planning:
Take class to the media center where the video conferencing equipment will be set up by the media specialist.  Students will be set up in groups of four.  There are sixteen students in the class, therefore there will be four groups.  Students will be wearing very large name tags around their necks so that the video conferencing provider will be able to address them by name.  The class will need to go to the library one day in advance so that video presets can be done.  We will have one preset for each group, and at least one for an entire class image.

Technique and Observations:
Group discussion and response journals to let me know what the learning outcomes were, and whether or not the students found the video conference valuable.
