Purpose/Objective
The sophomores at Amsterdam High School are required
to critically read Night by Elie Wiesel focusing on
appropriate literary terms. The students also will
have read short stories and poetry on the same topic and
discussed in class some of the personal issues
characters had to face during this very difficult
period of time in history. In preparation
for the reading of this text, students are given
geographical information about the Holocaust, including
maps of concentration camps and land features,
biographical information on key figures during the
Holocaust such as Adolf Hitler and Woodrow Wilson, and a
time line of events.

Planning
(111 hours) - This includes three day of Project VIEW
training totaling 21 hours. This also includes
four classroom weeks of reading, writing, listening, and
speaking for information and understanding about the
Holocaust, critical analysis of the text, literary
response to the chosen texts, and social interaction
with personal opinions about the texts.
Pre
Lessons and activities (2 hours) - this includes one
hour of teacher set up of video conference environment
and one hour of a trial run with students.

Logistical Planning:
Strategies and methods to prepare students -
1.
Students will practice in classroom, logistical concepts
like speaking up into the microphone, seat position,
hand raising, appropriate language, and quality
questions for the content provider.
2.
Students will be taken into the media center for a trial
run with Project VIEW staff.
Instructional/Education Modifications
1. Students with low voices will be positioned
appropriately.
