Degas and the Dance Special Exhibition
Grade 10, 11, 12

With my Drawing and Painting class, the students will be drawing from a posed figures.  They will draw with a gesture technique, contour line, and modeled figure.  They will also draw form a long pose using conte or pastel.

Students will actively engage I the processes that constitute creation and performance in the arts (dance, music, theater, and visual arts) and participate in various roles in the arts.

This integration plan was  used by a Teacher Berne-Knox-Westerlo High School who teaches 10-12 Art and 7th Grade Studio in Art and Drawing.
Before the videoconference, the students will read Scholastic Magazine on Edgar Degas "Working with Composition" and get background information on his life, style, and subject matter.  Students will also see a video on Impressionism.  We will be talking a field trip to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC in the spring and will have a tour of Impressionism.


Standard 3: Responding to and analyzing works of art

Students will respond critically to a variety of works in the arts, connecting the individual work to other works and to other areas of human endeavor and thought.
 

Standard 4: Understanding the cultural dimension and contributions of the arts
Students will develop an understanding of the personal and cultural forces that shape artistic communication and how the arts in turn shape the diverse cultures of past and present society

Time Required:

Planning - 1.6 Hours

Pre Lessons Activities - 4 Hours

Implementation - 40 Minutes - 1 Hour

Post Lessons and Activities and Assessment - 8 Hours for Project

Logistical Planning:
Review the elements & principles of design and critical analysis of a work of art.  Asking students questions about works of art.  Getting them to look at art.

Students will have a mock video conference in the Uhai Theatre prior to the conference to become familiar with the room and explain what the will expect.  We will discuss what they will see on the screen, camera shots, what to wear, etc.

We will have a trial dialup conference.
