Understanding the cultural dimension and contributions of the arts.  Students will develop an understanding of the personal and cultural forces that shape artistic communication and how the arts in turn shape the diverse cultures of past and present society.

Social Studies Standard 2
Students will use a variety of intellectual skills to demonstrate their understanding of major ideas, eras, themes, developments and turning points in world history and examine the broad sweep of history from a variety of perspectives


English Language Arts Standard 1
Students will read, write, listen and speak for information and understanding

Time Required:

Planning - 2 Days

Pre-Conference Lessons & Activities:  1 Week (5 classes)

Implementation - 2 hours (1 class plus set up time)

Post Lessons and Activities - 2 days (2 classes)

Assessment - 1 class

Logistical Planning:
Strategies and Methods.  Before the videoconference, the class will practice videoconferencing  with project VIEW to give the students an opportunity to practice speaking loudly, enunciating, and making sure that they wait to give their responses or ask questions.

Modifications:
None needed

Technique and Tools:
The students will  learn about the importance of letter writing during the Middle Ages, then write letters of their own pretending that they are living during medieval times, incorporating information that they learned in class and in the videoconference.

Tools - Students will be evaluated based on the North Colonie writing rubric.
