Virtual Art Collection Tour

The theme at this magnet school is communication and culture.  This class is taking a field trip to the Clark Art Museum in the spring.  This particular video conference will give the class a glimpse of what an art museum is like, how to behave and what to expect.  The class has been studying how art is a form of communication

The class will be participating in the art through a visual, interactive media.  They will be expanding on the school's theme through technology.

This integration plan was used by  a Grade 3  Teacher at the Academy of Culture & Communication at Pleasant Valley Magnet School in the Schenectady City School District.
The classroom furniture will be rearranged to accommodate all the students. 

We will have a basic worksheet for the children to fill out on the title and the artist of their favorite piece of artwork. They will then try to recreate that piece of art and write a paragraph on what they feel the artist is trying to convey through a particular piece.

Planning
- 2 hours

Implementation - Length of class 1 hour, 2 days to implement experience

Assessment - 1 hour

Logistical Planning - We will need to bring the children into the lab prior to the video conference and introduce them to the equipment and provide insight into what the video conference will actually be like.

Resources Needed
Many posters of different types of artwork

Student worksheets (teacher-created)

Assessment Plan
We will be doing many group discussions about how a piece of artwork makes them feel, or what the piece of artwork is trying to convey.

Students will write their ideas in their "artwork" journal about what piece of art is saying to them and how it makes them feel.

Students will observe different works of art.
