    The Globe Theater

Visit the Globe & Learn about the Structure

This program will allow my students the opportunity to visit the Globe Theater & learn about the structure itself along with the plays Shakespeare wrote.  We have been studying Macbeth & Hamlet and these will be the plays I hope to focus on with the Globe Theater.

Purpose/Objective:
This videoconference will integrate into our classroom study of the Globe Theater and our study of the tragedies Macbeth & Hamlet.  Students have listened and watched the plays and we have discussed the themes and images that Shakespeare has employed in each play.

This integration plan was used by an 11th and 12th Grade English Teacher at Amsterdam High School.
This will allow the students to see a place they may never get to visit and to talk to actors that have portrayed the characters they have been studying.

English Language Arts - Standard 1
Students will read, write, listen and speak for information & understanding.

Standard 2
Students will read, write, listen and speak for literary response and expression

Standard 3
Students will read, write, listen and speak for critical analysis and evaluation.

Standard 4
Students will read, write, listen and speak for social interaction

Time Required:
Planning

201 hours (this includes Project VIEW training and classroom times spent preparing the students to discuss the topic).  Pre-lessons and activities - two hours (this includes bringing the class in for a trial run and set-up time)

Logistical Planning:
I will take the students to the media center and do a test run of the videoconferencing.  I will teach the students to introduce themselves to the content provider, speak clearly and concisely and be prepared for the time delay.  I will set up the room so that quiet students will sit in the front.

Techniques and Tools:
Students participate in classroom discussion throughout the unit and I can observe who is on task and understanding and who needs some prodding & assistance.  The students take quizzes throughout the unit and will write a 3-5 page paper on the themes and images in both plays.  They will use class discussions and Internet research as the basis for their paper.
