Batter Up!
Math and Baseball with The National Hall Fame is a
interactive videoconference program that allows
students to actively participate in a baseball
game. Singles, doubles, triples, homeruns and outs
are all part of this videoconference program.
Throughout the game, students are asked math and
baseball related questions to acquire 'hits'. While
the lessons reinforce student math skills,
they also enjoy and benefit from an in-depth
explanation and are exposed to artifacts which
relate to the content embedded within the
questions.
As the
result of extraordinary partnerships, classrooms across New
York State can benefit from this interactive video-conference
program. Math and
Baseball, offers vast resources along with the guidance and
expertise of the museum's trained staff.
While the Math and Baseball curriculum is
inter-disciplinary and standards-based, it is designed to
maximize the interactive video-conferencing learning
experience.
This
state-of-the-art learning program includes complete lesson plans,
activities, resources, and contact personnel supporting the
video-conference project and
forming a comprehensive learning program. Teaching
and support teams comprised of teachers of all
disciplines come from Scotia-Glenville Junior High School and
Broadalbin Perth Middle School
in upstate New York. The teams have been trained to use
video-conference equipment and have worked with Hall of Fame
personnel, baseball experts, and educational leaders to develop
complete lesson plans that support this extraordinary learning
experience. The
