Background:  Wade Boggs had over 3,000 hits in his major league career, including seven straight seasons in which he had at least 200 hits.  Although he could hit with power, he hit a tremendous number of singles.

Question:  In 1985, Wade Boggs hit 187 singes, setting an American League record.  He had only eight home runs that year.  How many more singles than homers did he hit? 

Background:  During the 1970s, Thurman Munson was an outstanding catcher for the New York Yankees.  He played on world championship teams in 1977 and 1978, but tragically died in a plan crash in 1979.

Question:  In the 1977 World Series, Thurman Munson had 8 hits in 25 bats.  What was his batting average?

Background:  The 1947 All-Star Game was a close one.  The American League, with Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams, defeated the National League, who had Stan Musial and “Pee Wee” Reese, by a 2-1 margin.

Question:  In the 1947 All Star Game, the National League had only four singles and one home run in 32 at bats: What was their slugging percentage that game?
