Statistical Survey
Objectives Students will create a statistical survey based
on presented photos, generate data collecting questions and analyze
and interpret the information using acceptable mathematical methods.
Procedure
1. Students will make decisions on which images (s) will
have the most potential as a topic for their surveys of the sixties
generation.
Ex: Civil Rights - racial strife
Assassination(s) of key
political figure(s)
Influence of Music Culture
Advancement in Space
Exploration
Vietnam War/Cold War
2. Students
will analyze the image(s) and state in writing what it is they wish
to determine regarding the topical image(s) chosen. They will
pose the question to which they wish to seek an answer.
3. Students
will generate 6-10 well-constructed questions regarding the photo(s)
chosen, and write them in clear simple direct language.
4. Students
will identify the survey sample chosen with regard to sex, age, and
education. Identification of the sample will also include
their living environment at the time frame of the photo(s).
Exclusion from the sample would be due to birth year outside of
1944-1954 ranges.
5. Students
will conduct their survey and collect data on a minimum of 50
persons.
6. Students
will process the data and analyze it through statistical methods of
central measures of tendency and histograms.
7. Students
will evaluate the statistics, recognize any common themes, and make
statements regarding the findings of the survey. Such
statements will be made available for publication in the school
newspaper.
8. Using
appropriate technology not limited to power point demonstrations,
video cameo of volunteer samples and other computer generated
displays; students will create a presentation to adequately
communicate the results of the survey.
