Where the River Meets the Sea:
Exploring Life in the Chesapeake Bay
with Smithsonian Scientists

Mark Haddon
Director of Education at SERC

"With this electronic field trip, "Where the River Meets the Sea," SERC's endeavor to provide rich science content and challenging activities for students and teachers extends far beyond the land boundaries of the research center on the shoreline of the Chesapeake Bay.  In the 21st Century, we accept the challenge to provide ways people can understand the multi-faceted connections between themselves and the world around them.  This comes by using any method or media available that enhances the process of environmental education."

About SERC's Education Program

Watershed Radio

"It is amazing how much science content is covered in this electronic field trip.  We have gathered scientists together that will talk about current issues facing the Chesapeake Bay and its watershed.  Students will be working alongside SERC staff doing some of the water sampling while others will help collect fish and blue crabs.  As we expand our distance learning program and connect to schools all over the country, we find that there is common ground in discussing environmental issues extending over large geographic regions."
