OBJECTIVES:
1.
Students will observe a live Blue Crab.
2.
Students will be able to distinguish between a male
and female Blue Crab.
BACKGROUND:
The
students should have had an opportunity to explore the
Internet prior to this lab to learn more about the Blue
Crab. (See
related links in Lesson #1
DESCRIPTION:
This
is a lesson that should be conducted in a science lab or a
classroom that is equipped with a holding tank and
scientific instruments used when observing live specimens.
MATERIALS:
Live
Blue Crabs in a Holding Tank
§
Ruler
§
Magnifying
Glass
§
Blue
Crab Lab Sheet
PROCEDURE:
1.
Complete a KWL chart.
Students should record all the information they
already Know about the Blue Crab.
All the information they Want to know after
completing the lab and seeing a live crab.
2.
Pass out Lab
Sheet
Discuss procedure and have students complete
hypothesis prior to lab.
3.
Upon lab completion, complete the “L”
section of the K-W-L.
