Standards-Based
Programs and Models |
|
Project
VIEW has two training hubs, the Schenectady City School
District (Project VIEW) and the New York Institute of
Technology (NYIT). The two hubs share a vision and a
goal to create new models in standards-based curriculum
delivery. Through the shared resources of both hubs,
VIEW training reaches over 500 New York school districts from
Buffalo to Long Island.
The Schenectady
hub focuses on bringing interdisciplinary teams of teachers
together with museum staff to design, develop and use
interactive videoconference programs and related web-based
resources. Many team members are master teachers and
curriculum leaders with a high degree of education and
technological competence. They are committed to
providing site-based mentoring and turn-key training within
their home schools.
Through a
collaborative effort, with educators and content providers,
project VIEW is developing dynamic methods and models
for teaching and learning using interactive video and Internet
technology. Teachers work with the content providers to
develop innovative, replicable models for delivering high
quality content from distant locations. These models begin
with a framework for building a unique product which
provides students in grades K-12 the opportunity to
study and learn through interactive observation. The product
will allow students to experience the wealth of institutions
that they might otherwise never experience. They will engage
with scientists, historians, curators, librarians, and content
experts as
well as with artifacts and an array of resources, through the
use of interactive videoconference and electronic
technology.

Professional
Development is a key component of the successful program.
The model clearly outlines a professional training program
which enables teachers to become proficient in advanced voice,
video and electronic technologies in order to transform their
practice toward a student-centered approach incorporating a
seamless virtual Web
of informal education providers.
The impact of project VIEW will reach far beyond the immediate
participants. The model, the process and the products of
VIEW will easily be exportable to schools and communities
nationwide.
