BROADBAND DEMONSTRATION PROJECT
Time Warner Cable and Cable in the Classroom invite learners of all ages to experience the brain-charging impact of excellent content combined with powerful technology in Shakespeare: Subject to Change. It's the first installment in a series of lively, appealing learning experiences that show how broadband technology can support active, meaningful and memorable learning. For all of the talk about how broadband can revolutionize education, there have been few good examples. If you've ever needed an illustration to show others how this technology can impact teaching and learning in your classrooms, this is it.
You'll learn how and why the text of Shakespeare's plays has changed over time. In the process, you'll experience how broadband allows all kinds of learners to benefit from great content in open and interactive environments, using text, images, audio, full-motion video, and animations.

Shakespeare: Subject To Change

Accessible: Users are on the receiving end of resources such as clips from major film productions of Hamlet and 16th century images normally only available at the prestigious Folger Shakespeare Library, as well as expertise gathered from different parts of the globe to be available anywhere, anytime there is a computer and a high-speed Internet connection.

Multisensory: Users watch, read, hear, interact, and can submit their own variations of Hamlet's "To be or not to be" speech. Shakespeare is for everyone—regardless of learning styles.

Rich content: Examine digitized versions of rare documents and prints, or clips from movies and performances, guided by the expertise of scholars and filmmakers.

Self-directed: Users make the choices—they can go in any direction or sequence, at any pace. They continue to learn and explore by following recommended links.

So, stop by www.ciconline.org/broadband for an informative and engaging adventure in learning with broadband.

September 7 through December 7, 2003 – Charles R. Wood Gallery
Selected from the private collection of Werner Feibes and Jim Schmitt, this exhibition presents fifty-five works by thirty-five important European and American artists of the twentieth century. August 10 through November 16, 2003 – Hoopes Gallery
Hyde House (closed for restoration from July 2003 through spring 2004) and The Hyde Collection are amazing gifts from Charlotte Hyde for all to enjoy. Artists Susie Brandt and Margo Mensing created a multi-media installation exhibition to show how these gifts have impacted our community. How do artists turn an idea into art? Conceptual art is about ideas put into a physical form. Using video, photography, and the rarely seen stove from Mrs. Hyde’s kitchen, the artists reveal the special relationship between local people and their art museum.

Objects of Devotion: The Art of Medieval & Renaissance Europe
November 30, 2003 through February 29, 2004 – Hoopes Gallery
This exhibition is a great opportunity for teachers and students to take part in the Museum’s What were the Middle Ages? or What was the Renaissance? programs. With this exhibition, participants will have the opportunity to see works of art that date from 1150-1537, all in the same gallery!

Rodin: In His Own Words, Selections from the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation
January 18 through April 11, 2004 – Charles R. Wood Gallery

The show includes over thirty of Rodin’s (1840-1917) most famous works, including casts of The Thinker and The Man with the Broken Nose. Teacher packets and in-class preparation materials are available upon request. This exhibition is organized and circulated by the Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Foundation.

Cartoon Network Sponsors TRICK-OR-TREAT FOR UNICEF

"Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF" is an education and fundraising initiative that gives U.S. kids the opportunity to learn about their peers worldwide who are truly in need and raise money on their behalf. The annual tradition began in Philadelphia in 1950 when a youth group collected $17 in decorated milk cartons on Halloween to help children overseas. Since then, U.S. children have collected $119 million by going door-to-door with the trademark orange collection boxes on Halloween and by planning fundraisers with their schools or groups.
