Happy Holidays! The December issue of Time Warner Cable’s education newsletter, TWC’s Education Connection, is featuring unique Cable in the Classroom educational resources for teachers, students and, parents.

The purpose of this newsletter is to update you on the current Cable in the Classroom resources that are available for you to videotape and download off the Internet for use in your classroom. Using this technology will help to better engage your students in the subject matter. Website addresses are provided for downloading lesson plans. Monday Music Kid’s Series, presented by Capital News 9 and TWC
Join David Alan Miller and the Albany Symphony Orchestra as they continue to explore great moments in music history. As the recipient of the first ASCAP Leonard Bernstein Award for Educational Programming, the series has set the standard in making classical music accessible to young people. With original scripts and performances tailored to elementary age children, Monday Music provides a morning of fun for children from all over the Capital Region. Monday Music performances are held at 10 am.

Time Warner Cable Supports School Programs at The Hyde Collection
Time Warner Cable is proud to sponsor Hyde School Programs for the second consecutive year, supporting arts education for students of all ages in twenty regional school districts. The Hyde Collection, a fine arts museum located in Glens Falls, offers guided tours throughout the school year FREE of charge. The expansive permanent collection and regularly changing special exhibitions provide the foundation for School Programs that link art and art history with social studies, language arts, math, and science.
 
The Museum’s education department collaborates with classroom teachers and curriculum coordinators to develop object-based programming that satisfies New York State learning standards and prepares students for features of their standardized achievement tests. Over twenty options are offered, each designed to meet the needs of the student and teacher—reflecting the curriculum in both grade level and subject matter. Tours can be customized to specific classroom needs.

The Egg’s resident dance company mixes math with movement, matching learning to fun! This popular performance program gives students an appreciation for an exciting art form while exploring the principles of probability, percentages, and fractions. The wild and wacky emcee gets the students involved with mathematical queries based on the roll of the dice, spin of the wheel, pick of the cards, and toss of a coin which, in turn, determine the dances that the company will perform for the students.

An adventurous trip to the zoo changing into different animals teaches The Mixed-Up Chameleon the importance of being true to oneself. In The Very Busy Spider, a spider builds a web on a farmyard fence and ignores the playful banter of the barnyard animals. These whimsical tales are much beloved by several generations and have been translated into twenty languages.

Les Ballets Africains, the national ensemble of the Republic of Guinea, has thrilled audiences worldwide and is universally recognized as Africa's most accomplished touring company. In a compelling program celebrating the company's half century, Les Ballets Africains performs traditional dance, music, acrobatics and storytelling that capture the elemental energy of its native land. Pulsing rhythms from ancient tribal instruments build the excitement as the company bursts onto the stage in an explosion of dance and song. Lucky 13: Collaborations & Connections: Grades 7-12
Celebrating thirteen dancing years, The Egg’s resident company brings together thirteen outstanding artists spanning disciplines for a performance including new choreography and repertory favorites. Considered a master of the art of collaboration, Ellen Sinopoli has challenged the notions of conventionality in creating her choreography by pairing it with the obvious as well as the most unlikely of partners. The program will offer students a performance experience encompassing a variety of art forms to develop an appreciation for each of them individually as well as an understanding of the nature of collaboration through dance.
