September 2004  Issue 47

TWC Education Connection

Welcome back to another year of teaching and learning and to classrooms filled with fresh new faces and limitless potential. The September issue of Time Warner Cable’s education newsletter is featuring unique Cable in the Classroom educational resources for teachers, students and parents.

As you go about this most important work of educating young minds, it's worth pausing to ask if your school or district is positioned to support the kind of 21st-century learning experience students need and demand. A good place to start is the Partnership for 21st Century Skills, which recently released a report and an interactive collection of tools designed to support and promote achievement of ICT literacy and 21st-century skills. Other ideas can be found on the Research & Analysis, Expert Advice, and Special Projects pages of Cable in the Classroom's Web site.

We are hoping you will forward this newsletter letter to a colleague who would find this information useful.  For more information on CIC or questions about this newsletter, contact eric.kantor@twcable.com.

Points of VIEW Featured in September Issue of Access Learning Magazine

If you’ve faced the challenge of how to introduce technology into your classroom without sacrificing learning standards and achievement goals, you’ll be interested in reading how emerging technology is being combined with traditional practices to build dynamic curricula for the future in the September issue of Access Learning magazine.

In “Seize the Curriculum,” Nicholas Sheldon, a 7th grade social studies teacher at Mont Pleasant Middle School in Schenectady, NY, explains the four-step process Points of VIEW is using to build curricula that employs today’s technologies.

Points of VIEW is an ongoing project that is combining cable, Internet, and teleconferencing technologies with traditional resources to produce a series of lessons centering on the presidency of Theodore Roosevelt. Master Teachers from four upstate New York school districts developed the curriculum which is posted on the C-SPAN Web site for other teachers to use or adapt.  To read more about this exciting initiative, which won a 2004 Time Warner Crystal Apple National Teacher Award, you can access the article, in the PDF format, at http://www.twalbany.com/education/pdf/AL_09-04-SeizePOV.pdf or online at www.ciconline.org/accesslearning
