African Voices includes a one hour Webcast
and a number of lesson plans that explore the
African culture and history.
The
Webcast
which is available for
individual or classroom viewing, includes students spending time and
talking with
Smithsonian
Institution National Museum of Natural History's
anthropologist Michael Mason and ethnomusicologist Georges Collinet,
host of the radio show,
Afropop
Worldwide.
Through this
experience and the extraordinary Smithsonian museum exhibit,
African
Voices,
students also listened to African's talk about their lives, the
African culture, African music and participated in a number of
activities. Some of the follow-up activities and suggestions
for incorporating the theme into include writing to pen pals in
Africa and hosting an African Festival.
This project includes
a number of activities and resources that can be incorporated into
the classroom lesson. They can be used to support the African
Voices Webcast or as individual activities.
