Over the period of five years, Project VIEW will achieve the following
Goals and Objectives:

-----------------------------
Goal I
-----------------------------

Project VIEW will develop dynamic methods and models for teaching and learning using interactive video & Internet technology to prepare students with the high degree of literacy needed to achieve NYS and National Learning Standards & succeed in the 21st Century information age.

Project VIEW teachers work  with informal education providers such as museums, libraries & cultural institutions to develop innovative, replicable models for delivering high quality content from distant locations.  These models provide students (grades K-12) the opportunity to study and learn through interactive observation as well s engage students with scientists, historians, curators, librarians and content experts as they experience artifacts & resources though interactive videoconference & electronic technology.

-------------------------------
Goal II
-------------------------------

To change the classroom instructional & learning paradigms by developing effective partnering & enriched curriculum delivery through a Web of national & regional informal education providers including museums, libraries, cultural organizations and businesses offering talented content experts and vast resources.

Project VIEW teachers transform their classroom practice toward a student-centered, constructivist approach.  Through interactive engagement with authentic source materials & resource providers students are developing enhanced skills to access academic content & achieve analytic, creative literacy.

--------------------------------
Goal III
--------------------------------

Create a model for professional development and support and sustain educational reform.

660 building-based cadres will expand beyond a foundation of training.  Under project VIEW these cadres engage in a minimum of 50 hours of professional development which allows them to become proficient in advanced voice, video and electronic technologies and transform their practice toward a student-centered approach incorporating a seamless virtual Web of  informal education providers.

project VIEW is building capacity by serving as turnkey trainers and mentors for colleagues.

VIEW training provides K-12 teachers & informal education providers with training to make the best and most effective use of new technologies to engage students in standards-based learning and experience.

VIEW provides:

  • a platform for expanding and solidifying the role of interactive technology in providing K-12 educational outreach
  • an approach to using new technology to foster collaboration between informal education providers and schools
  • a philosophical and pedagogical foundation for continuing development of interactive educational projects
  • a collaborative resource kit of on-line tools for interactive technological educational delivery
  • a collaborative promotional access Web for thematic curriculum & VIEW interactive videoconference programs developed under this program.

The impact of Project VIEW will reach far beyond the immediate participants.   The process and the products of VIEW will easily be exportable to schools & communities nationwide.  VIEW will provide an effective model for using electronic videoconference technology.  VIEW will grow to become a menu of choices that will be available to any teacher at any time in any place.
