| Six
students from the Schenectady
City School District
were invited to participate in the electronic field trip,
live from the Whitney
Museum of American Art
in New York, New York. In order to prepare for the
experience the students learned not only about the art and
style of Jacob Lawrence, but, they also learned about the
impassioned storytellers life growing up in Harlem.
While in New
York, the students enjoyed a guided tour through the streets
of Harlem, the streets where Lawrence was raised.
The students
also engaged in a number of projects exploring Lawrence's
technique. They studied his line, color, form and
gesture. The students examined Lawrence's themes
including migration, discrimination, race relations, family
and community, and labor. |
