The Mystery Migration: Tracking
Sea Turtles
includes a one hour long Webcast that
was shot in partnership with the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center
on September 26, 2000 off the coast of Florida. View the
one-hour Web cast. An extraordinary
learning opportunity takes group of
students and scientists on-site to explore and track the
migration of sea turtles. They study and explore efforts that are in place to protect and
conserve these tremendous turtles.
These
fascinating little reptiles have been around since the age of
dinosaurs, but threats from humans
endanger their continued existence. Their ability to migrate
thousands of miles and need to nest on land's edge pose interesting
dilemmas for the scientists trying to save them. They also
present unique opportunities to study their natural behavior.
Follow along with scientists as they track the migration of sea turtles
and try to protect them throughout their long-distance journey.
The Webcast includes
live interactivity between students and an on-site
scientist. Students across the country participated in the
original experiment and learned about
sea turtle biology and behavior; see rare footage of the nesting
process. The scientists respond to questions via phone calls and
e-mails
